BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — 15 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) student-athletes earned notice on the 2023 Academic All-District® Women’s At-Large Teams, selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).  The teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. Women’s first, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on June 21.

Criteria for nomination to the All-District Team include:

  • The nominator must be a current dues-paying CSC members. 
  • CSC members may nominate:
    • Student-athletes who are enrolled at their own institution at the time of nomination
    • Student-athletes who have graduated from their own institution during the current academic year and are not competing in athletics at another institution at the time of nomination
    • CSC members may not nominate student-athletes who are competing in athletics at another institution, either as a graduate transfer or as an undergraduate, at time of nomination.
  • To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. The cumulative grade-point average may NOT be rounded up to 3.50.
  • Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games.
  • No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and been on a college roster in that sport for two years.
  • In the cases of transfers, graduate students, and two-year college graduates, the student-athlete must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution to be eligible. EXCEPTION: Graduate students who are competing at a different institution than the one from which they earned their undergraduate degree are eligible even if they are in their first semester at the graduate institution. Graduate transfers are only eligible for nomination at their current institution, unless they transferred and chose not to compete in intercollegiate athletics at their graduate transfer institution.
  • Nominees in graduate school must have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or above both as an  undergrad and in grad school.

Selections are divided based on institutional level (Division I, III):

Division I

  • Bella Moynihan (Sr., San Anselmo, Calif./Sir Francis Drake) – Bucknell University
  • Grace Thawley (Sr., Santa Ana, Calif./Mater Dei) – Harvard University
  • Taylor Halbauer (Sr., Edmonton, Alberta/Mother Margaret Mary) – Saint Francis University
  • Kata Utassy (Jr., Budapest, Hungary/Konyves Kalman Secondary School) – University of Michigan

Division III

  • Kate Askew (Sr., Highland Village, Texas/Marcus) – Austin College
  • Katherine Cox (Sr., Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound) – Austin College
  • Erin McCormack (Jr., Orlando, Fla./Winter Park) – Austin College
  • Cory McGrath (Jr., Flower Mound, Texas/Marcus) – Austin College
  • Sammi Thiele (Jr., Keller, Texas/Keller) – Austin College
  • Maria Sell (Sr., San Mateo, Calif./Aragon) – Connecticut College
  • Reese Trauger (Sr., Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) – Grove City College
  • Kendall Coney (So, League City, Texas/Clear Creek) – Macalester College
  • Eleanor Michaud (Sr., Long Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) – Macalester College
  • Laurel O’Hare (Jr., Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) – Macalester College
  • Megan DePrez (Sr., Claremont, Calif./Claremont) – Washington & Jefferson College

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
