BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Brown University, Harvard University, Iona College, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Princeton University and St. Francis College Brooklyn will compete in the Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) for a second year as the group’s league schedule is released for the 2017 season.
The teams will compete in a double round-robin format to establish the seeds for the seven-game NWPC Championship on Friday-Sunday, November 17-19, at Harvard in Cambridge, Mass. The victor of the championship earns a berth to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship tournament with a play-in game against the champion of the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC), similar to 2016, a likely outcome to begin the national championship postseason.
In the history of the six programs, Princeton (1992, 2004, 2009, 2011, 2015), Brown (1981, 1983, 1984, 1985, 2014), St. Francis Brooklyn (2005, 2010, 2012, 2013) and reigning NWPC champion Harvard (2016) are the only institutions in the new league to have previously captured a conference title.
