BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The 2019 men’s varsity water polo conference season is over, but action continues as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2019 Men’s Varsity National Top 20, Division III Top 10, Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Top Five and Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Top Five Week 12/November 27 Polls.

Stanford University takes over sole custody of the No. 1 spot in the National Top 20 Poll as the Cardinal and Trojans of the University of Southern California shared the lead berth for the past two weeks.  The Division III Top 10, NWPC and MAWPC rankings remain consistent in the top spot as Whittier College, Harvard University and Bucknell University are unanimous top picks, respectively.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the MAWPC, NWPC, Golden Coast Conference, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), SCIAC and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during each week of the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2019 Men’s Varsity National Top 20 (Week 12/November 27)

Stanford University reclaims sole custody of the No. 1 position as the Mountain Pacific Federation (MPSF) Champion reign as a unanimous top pick in the Week 12/November 27 National Men’s Varsity Top 20 Poll.

Stanford, which topped the poll in Weeks 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 prior to holding the top spot in a tie with the University of Southern California over the past two weeks, earns 100 points to rate as the undisputed No. 1 team in the country.  USC (91 points), which ranked at No. 1 in the Preseason and Week 1 voting before equaling the Cardinal over the previous two weeks, slips to No. 2 with the trio of the University of California-Los Angeles (84 points), University of the Pacific (84 points) and Golden Coast Conference (GCC) Champion Pepperdine University (84 points) tying for the No. 3 slot.

The University of California-Santa Barbara (75 points) backs up to No. 6, while Long Beach State University (70 points) edges the University of California (69 points) as the pair trade the No. 7 and 8 positions.  Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Champion Harvard University (62 points), Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Champion the University of California-Davis (58 points) and the University of California-San Diego (49 points) remain at No, 9-to-11, respectively.

Bucknell University (41 points) rises to No. 12 and San Jose State University (36 points) takes sole possession of the No. 13 position with California Baptist University (29 points) and the University of California-Irvine (29 points) tying at No. 14.

George Washington University (23 points), Loyola Marymount University (20 points), Princeton University (17 points), Brown University (12 points) and Santa Clara University (8 points) complete the Top 20 by holding down the No. 16-to-20 berths.

2019 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 12/November 27)

The Poets of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Champion Whittier College are a unanimous No. 1 pick in the Week 12/November 27 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

Whittier (100 points) leads a Division III poll which again experiences radical shifts from No. 2-to-10 with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (95 points) surpassing Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (88 points) to take over at No. 2.

California Lutheran University (76 points) moves up two places to No. 4 with the University of Redlands (75 points) tying Johns Hopkins University (75 points) at No. 5.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (73 points) and Chapman University (73 points) are tied at No. 7 with the University of La Verne (64 points) and Occidental College (45 points) completing the Top 10.

2019 Men’s Varsity Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Top 5 (Week 12/November 27/Final)

The Bison of Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Champion Bucknell University wrap-up the league year as the consensus top pick in the Week 12/November 27/Final MAWPC Top Five Poll.

The Top Five reflects the final results of the MAWPC Championship over the weekend at Bucknell’s Kinney Natatorium as the Bison (100 points), George Washington University (95 points), the United States Naval Academy (90 points), Fordham University (85 points) and Wagner College (80 points) conclude the year at No. 1-to-5 in both the water and in the poll.

The still undefeated Crimson (100 points) remain a unanimous top pick as Harvard enters this weekend’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Play-in Game versus Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Champion Bucknell University.

Princeton University (95 points), Brown University (90 points), St. Francis College Brooklyn (85 points) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (80 points) complete the Top Five in the final NWPC ranking of 2019.
