BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2019 Men’s Varsity National Top 20 and Division III Top 10 Week 14/December 11/Final Polls.

Stanford University and Whittier College conclude the year as unanimous top selections in the National Top 20 and Division III Top 10 Polls as the pair captured the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Division III National Collegiate Water Polo Championships, respectively, over the weekend.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC), Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC), Golden Coast Conference, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), SCIAC and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during each week of the season through the week following the NCAA Championship.

2019 Men’s Varsity National Top 20 (Week 14/December 11/Final)

Stanford University concludes the year as a unanimous top team in the nation according to the Week 14/December 11/Final National Men’s Varsity Top 20 Poll.

Stanford (100 points), which topped the Weeks 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 12 and 13 polls while sharing the top spot in a tie with the University of Southern California in the Week 10 and 11 rankings, earns 100 points to once again rate as the undisputed No. 1 team in the country. The Cardinal captured the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship tile over the weekend by downing USC (15-14 W) in sudden death overtime during the semifinals prior to upending host the University of the Pacific (13-8) in the national championship game.

USC (92 points) and Pacific (92 points) wrap-up the 2019 campaign in a tie at No. 2, while Pepperdine University (84 points) and the University of California-Los Angeles (83 points) rate at No. 4 and 5. 

The University of California-Santa Barbara (71 points), Long Beach State University (69 points), the University of California (67 points) and Bucknell University (51 points) complete the Top 10 at No. 6-to-10, respectively.

Harvard University (50 points) rates at No. 11 with the University of California-San Diego (48 points), San Jose State University (41 points), the University of California-Irvine (29 points) and California Baptist University (27 points) holding down the No. 12-to-15 slots.

Loyola Marymount University (22 points) rises to No. 16 with Princeton University (17 points) and George Washington University (17 points) tying at No. 17.  Brown University (11 points) and Santa Clara University (11 points) complete the Top 20 in a tie at No. 19.

2019 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 14/December 11/Final)

Whittier College finishes out the 2019 season at No. 1 in the Week 14/December 11/Final Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

The inaugural Division III National Collegiate Water Polo Champion following victories over the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (12-8 W) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (5-3 W) in the semifinals and championship game, respectively, of the inaugural Division III Championship sponsored by USA Water Polo, Whittier (100 points) is the unanimous top pick for the final poll in 2019.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (95 points) and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (84 points) remain at No 2 and 3 respectively, with MIT (79 points) climbing to No. 4 following a Third Place finish at the Division III Championship. 

California Lutheran University (77 points) and the University of Redlands (76 points) move to No. 5 and 6 with Johns Hopkins University (73 points) and Chapman University (73 points) tying at No. 7. 

The University of La Verne (62 points) remains at No. 9 with the duo of Occidental College (12 points) and Austin College (12 points) tying at No. 10.
