ERIE, Pa. — In 2020, the Mercyhurst University men’s water polo team played a shortened season that saw them finish with a record of 3-5 and a 2-3 conference record.

20 Years Just Flew By:  This season will be the 20th season of Mercyhurst Men’s Water Polo after the program started in 2001. During that time, the Lakers won Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division II Championships in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016. They also claimed a Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC)-West Championship in 2016.

Schedule Overview:  Mercyhurst will play a full 16 game schedule which start on September 4 as the Lakers will face Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Mass. The Lakers will host their first game on September 11 as Mount St. Mary’s University (Md.) will make the trip to Erie. Mercyhurst will also participate in the Bison Invitational hosted by Bucknell University prior to their first MAWPC weekend on September 25 and 26. The post season will start on October 23 with the CWPA Division II Championships that will be hosted at the Hallman Aquatic Center in Erie.

Davis and Kagen Are BACK: Mathieu Davis and Derek Kagen both return to the pool for the Lakers after being named to All-Conference Teams last season.  Kagen was named to the second team after scoring 16 goals as a sophomore. Davis returns after being named to the first team. As a junior, Davis scored 19 goals while scoring nine of them in one game during a playoff win over Washington & Jefferson College.

Welcome to Erie:  Five new faces will be joining a Lakers squad that lost just one senior last year. Kywanna Jagaroo comes to Mercyhurst after playing his first two years at La Salle University. Tony Golin,JP Kirouac,Parker Wood and Erich Fuhrman join Mercyhurst as freshmen.

A New Way to Watch: Starting in the Fall of 2021 the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) will have a new streaming service to broadcast PSAC contests. All Mercyhurst and PSAC contests will be broadcasted on the PSAC Digital Network hosted by BlueFrame.
