BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The 2021 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC)-West Region schedule featuring Gannon University, McKendree University, Mercyhurst University, Salem University and Washington & Jefferson College, along with Augustana College is now available.

Following a 2020 season which was delayed until the Winter of 2021, the composition of the MAWPC-West adjusts as Monmouth College terminated its men’s water polo program after not competing last year.  In addition, Augustana will play during league weekends as a non-conference member and will also not compete at the league championship.

Competition begins on Saturday-Sunday, September 25-26, as Mercyhurst hosts McKendree, W&J, Salem and Gannon in eight games at the David M. Hallman III Aquatics Center in Erie, Pa., with the Mercyhurst-McKendree and Ganon-McKendree games not counting towards the programs’ league records.

Action moves to McKendree in Lebanon, Ill., on Saturday-Sunday, October 9-10, as the Bearcats host Salem, Mercyhurst, Gano and Augustana in eight games. Similar to the Mercyhurst weekend, the McKendree-Augustana, Salem-Mercyhurst, Salem-Augustana and Salem-Gannon contests will not count toward the league standings.

Following the Division II Eastern Championship hosted by Mercyhurst at the Hallman Aquatics Center on Saturday, October 23, with Salem, Gannon and McKendree, the MAWPC-West Championship will be determined at the Mylan Park Aquatic Center in Morgantown, W.Va., on Saturday-Sunday, November 6-7, as Salem hosts Gannon, Mercyhurst, McKendree and W&J in a five-team, six-game championship weekend.

The victor of the MAWPC-West Championship earns a spot in the eight-team, 12-game MAWPC Championship slated for Friday-Sunday, November 19-21 at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.  The MAWPC-West Champion will take on the seven MAWPC-East institutions (Navy, Bucknell University, Fordham University, George Washington University, Johns Hopkins University, Mount St. Mary’s University, Wagner College) with an automatic berth to the 2021 NCAA Men’s Water Polo Championship on the line.

In the history of the MAWPC-West Championship, Mercyhurst (2016), Gannon (2017, 2019) and McKendree (2018, 2020) have claimed the championship, with Connecticut College (2016), Mercyhurst (2017), Salem (2018), McKendree (2019) and Gannon (2020) notching runner-up marks.
