No. 17 Pennsylvania State University-vs.-No. 19 United States Military Academy Scoresheet (2023 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship – Game #11)

KEARNS, Utah — Danny Crump (So., Blue Bell, Pa.) and Matthew Fencel (Jr., Camp Hill, Pa.) both scored five times to share Player of the Game recognition as Mid-Atlantic Division Champion/No. 17 Pennsylvania State University outscored New York Division Champion/No. 19 the United States Military Academy by a 10-3 count in the second half to claim a 20-11 victory in a consolation game at the 2023 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship hosted by the University of Utah at the Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center.

Penn State moves on in the consolation field as the Nittany Lions will take on Northwest Division Champion/No. 10 the University of Oregon at 2:50 p.m. Mountain on Saturday, November 11, with a spot in the 16-team championship field’s Ninth Place game on the line.  A loss to the Ducks will drop PSU into the 11th Place game.

The loss sets an end time for the Cadets’ season as Army will face Southeast Division Champion the University of Alabama at 9:50 p.m. on Saturday, November 11 in a 13th/15th Place game.  The winner of the game ties for 13th place and the loser ties for 15th.  Due to time constraints, the 13th-to-16th positions are not played out in the conventional Collegiate Club Championship bracket.

Penn State never trailed against Army as the Nittany Lions opened up a 3-0 lead and never looked back in outscoring the Cadets 5-3, 5-3, 6-3 and 4-0 in the first-to-fourth quarters, respectively.

For Penn State, Jacob Harkins (Sr., Hollywood, Fla.), Ryan McLaughlin (Jr., Blue Bell, Pa.) and Louie Porter (Jr., King of Prussia, Pa.) each posted a pair of goals.  Tino Daiute (So., Hazleton, Pa.), Asher Sasson (Fr., Chalfont, Pa.), Colin Henry (Jr., Pennsburg, Pa.) and Keegan Enstrom (Sr., Pasadena, Calif.) each accounted for a solo markers in the win.

Goalkeeper Evan Mancini (Sr., Lansdale, Pa.) earned the win in cage.

Army – which previously finished first (1994), eighth (2017), 12th (2001, 2016, 2019), 13th (2002, 2018) and 15th (2022) at the Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship – received five goals from Max Orlowski (Jr., Canonsburg, Pa.), a trio by Jordan Corpuz (Sr., Ewa Beach, Hawaii) and a pair courtesy of Robby Demont (Jr., Riverbank, Calif.) to accompany a single strike from the hand of Eric “EB” King (Sr., Zachary, La.).  Goalkeeper Dane Vestal (So., San Diego, Calif.) took the loss.
