BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The University of California-Los Angeles and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges continue at No. 1 in the National Top 20 and Division III Top 10 rankings, respectively, as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the official 2025 Men’s Varsity National Top 20, Division III Top 10, Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Top Five and Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Top Five Polls for Week 2/September 10.

The defending National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Champion, UCLA remains the unanimous pick at No. 1, while Pomona-Pitzer falls one vote shy of being a unanimous top pick in Division III.

Defending MAWPC champion Fordham University and defending NWPC champion Princeton University retain their status in their leagues’ Top Five rankings.

Voted on by a panel of coaches, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during each week of the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2025 Men’s Varsity National Top 20 (Week 2/September 10)

2024 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Champion the University of California-Los Angeles continues to rampage through the collegiate water polo ranks as the Bruins remain a unanimous top selection in the Week 2/September 10 2025 National Men’s Varsity Top 20 Poll.

UCLA (100 points) remains five points in front of runner-up the University of Southern California (95 points) and 10 points ahead of the University of California (90 points).

The first change in the Top 20 comes at No. 4 as Stanford University (85 points) – which was tied with Fordham University (79 points) at No. 4 last week – achieves sole custody of the position in the season’s second week.  Fordham slips back to No. 5 with San Jose State University (77 points) hanging on at No. 6.

Long Beach State University (67 points) and the University of California-Irvine (65 points) split up at No. 7 to take over at No. 7 and 8, respectively, while University of the Pacific (59 points) and Princeton University (58 points) complete the Top 10 at No. 9 and 10.

The University of California-Davis (51 points) drops out of a tie with Pacific at No. 10 from last week to take over at No. 11.

Pepperdine University (43 points) and the University of California-San Diego (37 points) stay at No. 12 and 13 with California Baptist University (31 points) gaining company at No. 14 from Loyola Marymount University (31 points).

Santa Clara University (27 points) cracks the Top 20 at No. 16, the United States Naval Academy (17 points) bobs up to No. 17 and Brown University (16 points) assumes the No. 18 berth prior to the University of California-Santa Barbara (14 points) and George Washington University (10 points) tying at No. 19 to complete the Top 20.

2025 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 2/September 10)

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges continues at No. 1 in the Week 2/September 10 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

The Sagehens (99 points) move within one vote of reigning as a unanimous top selection in the rankings.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (96 points) and 2024 USA Water Polo Division III Champion the University of Redlands (84 points) exchange the No. 2 and 3 positions, while California Lutheran University (79 points) inches ahead of 2024 USA Division III Championship runner-up Chapman University (78 points) and Whittier College (77 points) as the trio now rate at No. 4-to-6.

Johns Hopkins University (63 points), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (55 points), Augustana College (53 points) and previously unranked Occidental College (46 points) complete the Week 2 rankings.

2025 Men’s Varsity Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Top 5 (Week 2/September 10)

Four-time (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024) Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Champion Fordham University continues at No. 1 in the Week 2/September 10 2025 MAWPC Top Five Poll.

A unanimous No. 1 selection, the Rams (100 points) extend their lead to eight points over George Washington University (92 points) and preseason runner-up the United States Naval Academy (92 points).

Bucknell University (85 points) and Wagner College (81 points) remain at No 4 and 5.

The 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 NWPC Champion Tigers (100 points) rate as a unanimous No. 1 selection, but see their lead over runner-up Brown University (95 points) shrink from seven to five points this week.  Three-time (2016, 2017, 2019) NWPC Champion Harvard University (89 points) stays at No. 3 with Iona University (83 points) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (83 points) tying at No. 5.
