BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — A total of 363 student-athletes earned recognition on an updated version of the 2017 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) Men’s All-Academic Team.
The list is amended to include six athletes from Occidental College and an additional four selections from Princeton University.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete’s head coach must be a member of the ACWPC, while the athlete must attain a grade point average in excess of 3.20. Divided into three teams based on cumulative grade point average (GPA), 95 athletes garnered Outstanding (4.00-3.71), 148 Superior (3.70-3.41) and 120 Excellent (3.40-3.20) recognition from 46 teams.
Further, a total of 21 schools posted Team Honors for notching GPAs over 3.0. Salem International University (3.78) led the way with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (3.62), California Institute of Technology (3.51), St. Francis College Brooklyn (3.50), Brown University (3.49), Harvard University (3.30), Wagner College (3.29), Chapman University (3.29), Iona College (3.24) and Fordham University (3.18) rounding out the Top 10.
California Baptist University (3.16), Gannon University (3.16), Johns Hopkins University (3.12), the University of California-Irvine (3.12), Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (3.11), California Lutheran University (3.10), Connecticut College (3.10), the University of California (3.09), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (3.08), Pepperdine University (3.05) and the University of California-Davis (3.03) complete the 21 teams to exceed/achieve the 3.0 mark.
