BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — To aid in the development of the game of water polo, the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) provides a Referee Education Video Library on the organization’s website.

Available at the Education link on the Officiating pages of the league site, the development of the Referee Education Library was driven by the work of the CWPA Technical Committee in conjunction with former National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Coordinator of Officials Dr. Bob Corb.

The CWPA is optimistic that this will have an even greater impact on officiating in the sport by making the CWPA education program readily available throughout the game. The goal of the library is to provide valuable direction and insight for each level officials – from those just beginning the process, to more advanced and veteran officials. This open source library is designed to provide every official an opportunity to achieve the standards that have made CWPA Referees respected across the country.

The Video Library includes:

  • Hand Signals Library: World respected official Alex Stankevitch and CWPA Technical Committee member/fellow world class official Jack Horton demonstrate and explain the proper hand signals for calling the game.  From contra fouls, game misconducts, timeouts, cards, minor fouls, swimoffs and all other pertinent signals during the game, Stankevitch demonstrates the proper form to make the call with Horton leading conversation on explanations.
  • Table Staffing Library: Former CWPA Assistant Commissioner and Director of Officials Tom Tracey presents a comprehensive explanation of the responsibilities of the scoring table during a water polo game.  From tips to maximum the effectiveness of the table staff, professionalism and how to properly fill out a scoresheet, the video series offers even the most advanced scorekeeper tips to eliminate errors.
