LOS ANGELES, Calif. — No. 17-ranked Princeton University earned two victories during day one of the LMU Invitational hosted by Loyola Marymount University at the Burns Aquatic Center. The Tigers took down the No. 24 California Baptist University Lancers, 8-6, and the No. 23 Marist College Red Foxes, 8-7

Against Cal Baptist, Haley Wan led the Tigers with three goals.

Princeton opened up by holding California Baptist without a goal for the first 10:25 of game time. During that span, the Tigers went in front, 3-0, as two tallies from Wan leading the way. Head coach Becca Dorst‘s squad led at the intermission, 4-1.

Trailing by three, California Baptist posted three straight goals to tie the contest at five-all as the clock read 2:46 in the third quarter. Lindsey Kelleher‘s tally 92 seconds into the fourth frame gave Princeton a 6-5 advantage. After the two teams exchanged goals, Princeton would hold the Lancers off the scoreboard for the final 3:28 to pick up the decision.

Against Marist, goals from Chelsea Johnson and Eliza Britt in the final minute of the first frame gave Princeton a 4-2 advantage after eight minutes. The Red Foxes outscored Princeton in the second quarter and went into the break, down 5-4.

The two teams combined for just two tallies in the third stanza to setting the score at 6-5 in favor of Princeton with eight minutes to go.

Down by two at 7-5 in the fourth quarter, Marist scored back-to-back goals to knot the contest with about five minutes to go. Sophomore Abbey Blake played hero as she registered the Tigers’ eighth goal to give Princeton the victory.
