BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Six members of the Hartwick College women’s water polo team are among 69 Hawks to garner recognition on the Spring 2018 Empire 8 Spring 2018 Presidents’ List. A total of 816 student-athletes from the Empire 8’s nine full-time member and 14 affiliate institutions were recognized for academic excellence.
President’s List recipients must earn a 3.75 grade point average or higher while participating in a conference-sponsored sport. In addition, the student-athlete must display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution.
Biochemistry major Emma Aleksandrovic (So., Belgrade, Serbia/Medicine School Zvezdara), Business Administration major Gina Grauer (So., West Lawn, Pa./Wilson), Geology major Kate McKenty (Sr., Auckland, New Zealand/Takapuna Grammar School), Biology major Josette Santos (Sr., Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison), Nursing major Tori Wilson (So., Kitchener, Ontario, Canada/Grand River Collegiate Institute) and Economics/Business Administration Lena Kotanchyan (So., Moscow, Russia/Elk Island School #368) were honored by the Empire 8 for their academic performance.
Eight Hartwick athletic teams were also acknowledged as Empire 8 All-Academic Teams for registering grade-point averages of 3.2 or higher for the semester. The Hawks’ women’s water polo team (3.31) placed seventh among the eight teams by finishing behind women’s soccer (3.54), women’s cross country (3.44), field hockey (3.41), women’s tennis (3.4), men’s soccer (3.36) and women’s volleyball (3.36), while rating in front of men’s cross country (3.27).
Overall, a total of 10 CWPA women’s water polo student-athletes garnered recognition as four Utica College Pioneers are among 109 selections from their school to earn accolades. Further, Utica women’s water polo also earned Empire 8 All-Academic Team status for finishing with a 3.31 grade point average.
