BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Lexi Wong (Fr., Lantana, Texas/Guyer) of the Austin College women’s water polo team was among more than 50 student-athletes honored at the school’s annual Athletics Convocation in Sid Richardson Gymnasium on the Austin College campus.

A women’s swimmer and water polo player, Wong joined men’s water polo player Andrew Pope in being named the female and male Tim Jubela Award winners as the most outstanding freshmen student-athletes. Wong was named the CWPA Newcomer of the Year

Wong led the ‘Roos to the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championship game in the program’s first year, marking the first time a program advanced to the title game in its inaugural season. The attacker was twice named the CWPA Rookie of the Week this season, in addition to being named the top rookie at the CWPA Tournament. Wong was the CWPA Division III West Region Rookie of the Year, as well, after scoring 42 goals in Austin College’s 17 games this season. In the team’s first round victory in the conference tournament, she established a program record with eight goals scored.

In addition, Shannon Berry (Fr., Austin, Texas/Westwood) of the women’s water polo team earned a  Sig Lawson award – presented for dedication and commitment to Austin College Athletics.  Goalie Vaery Piachonkina (Fr., Castro Valley, Calif./Mission San Jose) was named the Golden ‘Roo award recipient, while Madison Taylor (Fr., Cooper Canyon, Texas/Marcus) garnered the Cap 15 Award.
