MAAC 40th Anniversary Women’s Water Polo Team
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Five Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) All-Conference selections along with former Hartwick College standout Ashleigh (Jacobs) Huckins garnered recognition on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) 40th Anniversary Women’s Water Polo team.
Jelena Maljkovic of St. Francis College Brooklyn garnered back-to-back All-North Division First Team accolades in 2001 and 2002 and again in 2004 (North Division-South Region) from the CWPA.
In addition, 2004 North Division-South Region Second Team honoree Jenny Shoemaker of Iona College, South Division First Team picks Kim Pare and Ellen Howe of Villanova University along with North Division-North Region Second Team honoree Shanna Allen of Siena College were also recognized by the MAAC.
Huckins’ selection is based on her coaching tenure at Marist College from 2003-to-2013. During her time on the Red Foxes’ bench, she led Marist to three straight MAAC championships from 2008-10. The Red Foxes won a game in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship in both 2009 and 2010, becoming the first program in MAAC history to accomplish that feat. Her 2008 team set a school record with 27 victories, and went a perfect 10-0 in MAAC play. She compiled an overall record of 129-92, including a 53-11 mark in conference play. Huckins coached four MAAC Defensive Players of the Year, one MAAC Rookie of the Year, and 12 First Team All-MAAC selections.
Following her tenure at Marist, she returned to her alma mater, Hartwick College, as an assistant coach from 2014-to-2018.
In her five seasons with the Hawks, she helped the program to 111 victories, including a 30-11 mark in the program’s final season in 2018.
A 2004 graduate of Hartwick with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and a minor in Documentary Photography, she was a member of the Hawks’ water polo team from 2001-2004 and garnered All-North Division selections in both 2001 (Second Team) and 2004 (First Team). During her time, the Hawks captured four consecutive CWPA Northern Division titles. She helped lead the 2004 team to a fourth place finish at the NCAA Championship and to the CWPA Eastern Championship while also winning North Division-South Region Most Valuable Player honors.
