BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The University of Southern California remains the top-ranked team in women’s water polo as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2021 Week 13/May 5 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 and Division III Top 5 Polls.
A change occurs at the top of the final Division III rankings for the 2021 season as Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Champion California Lutheran University is tied by Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Champion Austin College.
Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season.
2021 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 13/May 5)
The University of Southern California regains its status as the unanimous top team in the land as the Trojans remain at No. 1 in the Week 13/May 5 Women’s Varsity Top 25 Poll.
USC (100 points), which rolled to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championship by dispatching Arizona State University (16-8 W) and Stanford University (9-6 W), holds a five-point lead over runner-up Stanford (95 points).
The University of California-Los Angeles (93 points), which was tied with Stanford at No. 2 last week after taking down USC by a 13-6 score in the regular season finale by both programs two weeks ago, slips to No. 3 with Arizona State (87 points) and Big West Conference Champion the University of Hawaii (82 points) both climbing one spot to drop the University of California (79 points) back to No. 6.
Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Champion University of Michigan (75 points) and the University of California-Irvine (75 points) remain equals at No. 7 for another seven-day run with the University of California-San Diego (67 points) and Golden Coast Conference Champion Fresno State University (62 points) completing the Top 10 at No. 9 and 10, respectively.
The University of California-Davis (58 points) slips to No. 11, while Long Beach State University (55 points) and San Diego State University (53 points) take over at No. 12 and 13.
University of the Pacific (48 points) and Indiana University (48 points) are now tied at No. 14 with the trio of San Jose State University (41 points), California Baptist University (36 points) and Loyola Marymount University (31 points) remaining static at No. 16-to-18, respectively.
Azusa Pacific University (24 points) and Bucknell University (24 points) move into a tie at No. 19 with Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Champion Marist College (22 points), Santa Clara University (14 points), Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Champion Salem University (8 points), La Salle University (7 points) and Long Island University (5 points) concluding the Week 13 Poll at No. 21-to-25.

2021 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 5 (Week 7/May 5/Final)
California Lutheran University gains company at No. 1 in the Week 7/May 5 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 5 Poll as Austin College pulls even to tie for the top spot.
Cal Lutheran (97 points) – which took home the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) crown over the weekend and earned a berth to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship – concludes the year deadlocked on paper with Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Champion Austin (97 points).
The University of Redlands (72 points) remains at No. 3 with Wittenberg University (66 points) and the University of La Verne (52 points) wrapping up 2021 at No. 4 and 5.
La Verne’s ranking is unique as the team did not compete until this week with the Leopards stopping Chapman University by an 11-7 score on Wednesday, April 28, prior to dropping an 18-11 game to Cal Lutheran in the SCIAC semifinals on Saturday, May 1.
