LEWISBURG, Pa. — Ally Furano (Sr., Stamford, Conn./The Ursuline School (N.Y.) is the recipient of the 2021 Bucknell University Bradley N. Tufts Award presented in recognition of exceptional athletic achievement and contribution to Bucknell athletics.
A six-time Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Player of the Week selection and seven-time weekly honor recipient with laurels in 2021 (March 15 – Player of the Week), 2020 (February 3 – Player of the Week), 2019 (February 4, March 11, April 8 – Player of the Week) and 2018 (April 16 – Player and Rookie of the Week), Furano garnered a pair of All-Conference (2019, 2021 – First Team) and Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-America (2019, 2020 – Honorable Mention) selections. The 2021 ACWPC All-America team is slated to be announced in the next several weeks.
Per Bucknell, “Quite simply, Ally Furano was a goal-scoring machine for the Bison women’s water polo team. When Ally arrived at Bucknell, the team record for goals in a season was 75. As a sophomore in 2019, she poured in 123, smashing that 10-year-old record by a whopping 48 goals. She scored 77 more goals in less than half a season in 2020, and she will graduate as Bucknell’s all-time leader with 293 goals. Even though her junior and senior seasons were both shortened by the pandemic, Ally owns the career goal-scoring mark by 56 goals, and her 380 career points are second-most in school history. Ally is a two-time All-CWPA selection and a two-time Honorable Mention All-American. Most importantly, she contributed to one of the most successful eras of Bison water polo. Her class contributed to a stellar 64-38 record over the last four years, and Bucknell’s third and second-place finishes at the last two CWPA Championships are the best in program history. Ally is also a Dean’s List student with a double major in economics and political science, and she has been a part of the CWPA’s Academic Superior Recognition team every year so far.”
