BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Former Indiana University Hoosiers Jessica Gaudreault and Shae (Fournier) La Roche helped Canada tie Italy, 7-7, at the Alfred Hajos National Swimming Stadium in the opening round of Group A competition at the 2022/19th Annual FINA World Championships hosted in Budapest, Hungary.

A 2019 graduate of Indiana and a current assistant coach at the University of Michigan, Gaudreault, who claimed Player of the Match honors, stopped 13-of-20 shots by the Italians as Canada rallied back from 4-2 and 6-4 deficits at the conclusion of the first and second quarters to balance the scoreboard prior to the final horn.

She turned away nine-of-14 action shots and four-of-six man-up opportunities to set the stage for 2014 Indiana alum La Roche who tossed in the equalizer by converting on a power-play with 5:05 left in the fourth quarter.

The score marked La Roche’s lone tally of the contest as she finished one-for-five – including a zero-for-four mark on action shots while tacking on a steal and collecting a pair of rebounds off missed shots.

Canada will continue Group A action on Wednesday, June 22, against Colombia.
