BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Jason O’Donnell (So., Beaconsfield, Quebec, Canada/John Abbott College), formerly of the Mount St. Mary’s University men’s water polo team, was named to the Water Polo Canada men’s team roster for the upcoming 2022 FINA World League Super Final in Strasbourg, France, on July 22-27.
Team Canada will play its first game at the 2022 FINA World League Super Final against Italy on Friday, July 22 at 8:00 a.m. Eastern. The team earned its right to participate in this prestigious competition with its fourth-place finish at the 2022 FINA World League Intercontinental Cup in March, in Lima, Peru.
Among 14 athletes, two coaches and three staff members that will represent Canada, O’Donnell claimed Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC)-East Region All-Conference honors during the 2021 season as he led the Mountaineers with 109 goals scored, steals (99), drawn exclusions (55) and field blocks (17). Appearing in all 31 games during his second collegiate season, he tallied multiple goals in 29 of them, including 19 hat tricks, and registered two steals or more in 25 games.
The Winter 2021 MAWPC Rookie of the Year and a First Team All-Conference selection, O’Donnell claimed Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) Honorable Mention All-America status for compiling 50 goals in eight games during the COVID-19 abbreviated/relocated 2020/Winter 2021 season. He added 18 steals, 11 drawn exclusions and seven assists along with leading the team in field blocks with five. He recorded a hat trick in every game he played, including eight in games with Washington & Jefferson College and McKendree University.
