FUKUOKA, Japan — Former University of Michigan athletes Amy Ridge and Abby Andrews combined to shoot three-for-seven to account for nearly a third of their homeland’s goals as Australia outlasted France, 10-8, in both teams’ opening game of Group A competition at the 20th World Aquatics Championships.

Fellow former Wolverine Sofie Pontre ’21 M ’22 did not compete in the game for Australia.

Ridge – who competed for Michigan in 2016 – shot one-for-two in 14:05 of playing time in the game, while Andrews – who played for Michigan in 2019 – connected on two-of-five shots in 24:07.

Ridge, Andrews, Pontre and the rest of the Australia National Team will return to the water at 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18, against the United States.
