BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Kiefer Black (Fr., San Diego, Calif./La Jolla) of No. 19-ranked the United States Naval Academy finished the weekend with 14 goals, three assists, five steals and three ejections drawn during a 2-1 league week at home in Annapolis to earn recognition as the October 2 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Player of the Week.

A two-time weekly award recipient from the league office after previously claiming the September 25 MAWPC Rookie of the Week commendation, he opened the week by tying a school record for the most goals in a game with nine in a 15-6 victory at home in Scott Natatorium versus George Washington University on Thursday, September 28.  The mark ties the record set by Bran Wineke against Slippery Rock University in 1993 and equaled by Isaac Salinas at Johns Hopkins University in 2018.

During the record-setting performance against the Revolutionaries, Black scored three goals in the first, second and third quarters prior to sitting out the fourth quarter with the win secured.

In addition, he snagged three steals against George Washington.

Facing defending MAWPC Champion/No. 17 Fordham University on Saturday, September 30, in a potential preview of the MAWPC Championship title game at the conclusion of the league season, he posted pairs of goals and assists to accompany three ejections drawn in a 12-0 loss to the Rams.

On Sunday, October 1, he opened a new month and closed out the week by notching three goals for his second hat-trick of the week in a 15-10 defeat of Bucknell University.  He tacked on an assist and two steals in the win as the Midshipmen improved to 12-4 on the year.
