BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Spain built leads of 6-2 and 10-4 by the conclusion of the first and second quarters, respectively, prior to outscoring Canada 3-0 in the third quarter to garner an 18-8 victory at the Paris La Defense Arena in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Olympics.

The Canadians are guaranteed to play a final pair of games as the team falls into the Fifth-to-Eighth bracket.  Canada will next be in action at 7:00 a.m. Eastern/4:00 a.m. Pacific on Thursday, August 8, against Italy as the Italians dropped an 11-8 affair against the Netherlands in another quarterfinal.  The victor of the Canada’s game versus Italy plays for Fifth Place on Saturday, August 10, while the loser competes for Seventh Place.

Canada – which faced the Netherlands (20-11 L, August 4), Hungary (12-7 L, July 29), the People’s Republic of China (12-7 W, July 31) and Australia (10-7 L, August 2) to claim Fourth Place in Group A – could not keep pace with Group B Champion Spain in suffering a 10-goal setback..

La Roche shot zero-for-one in the game with a missed man-up opportunity while also tacking on a rebound.  Through five games at the 2024 Olympics, she is shooting three-for-15 with two field blocks, a steal and five rebounds.

Gaudreault turned aside nine-of-24 shots she faced (three-of-12 action shots/four-of-six man-up/two-of-three center shots/zero-of-one six-meter shots/zero-of-two penalty shots) with four rebounds to take the loss.  Through all five 2024 Olympic games for Canada, she has 42 saves on 100 shots with five steals.
