PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 14-ranked Princeton University women’s water polo team dispatched the Mercyhurst University Lakers, 16-7, at DeNunzio Pool in the Tigers’ final Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) home game of the 2025 season.
The victory improves Princeton to 6-2 in league competition as the Tigers join No. 15 the University of Michigan (6-2) and No. 11 Harvard University (8-2) in the hunt for the CWPA regular season title and No. 1 seed for the CWPA Championship at Brown University on Friday-Sunday, April 25-27.
The Tigers started off on fire, recording the first eight goals of the game highlighted by a hat trick from Kayla Yelensky.
The Lakers began the second quarter with two tallies before Ally Lurie went back-to-back to stymie any potential run. Princeton led 10-3 at halftime.
The home team led by as many as nine in the second half and was not threatened as head coach Derek Ellingson‘s crew improved to 15-6 overall.
Yelensky (four), Shanna Davidson (three), Lurie (two), Ava Houlahan (two), Rachael Carver (two), Olivia Krotts, Lindsey Lucas and Kate Mallery combined for the Tigers’ 16 goals.
Casey Weigel made nine saves in the win.
Prior to the game, the Tigers honored the Class of 2025. The group of Yelensky, Carver, Mallery and Grace Houlahan have won 89 games and is one of only five classes in program history to win multiple conference titles.
