BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — A total of 181 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) women’s water polo athletes are among 927 honorees on the 2026 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) Women’s All-Academic Awards list.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete’s head coach must be a member of the ACWPC, while the athlete must attain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or higher. Divided into three teams based on cumulative grade point average (GPA), 434 athletes garnered Outstanding (4.00-3.71), 312 Superior (3.70-3.41) and 181 Excellent (3.40-3.20) recognition.
Among CWPA institutions, the league claimed 85 Outstanding, 61 Superior and 35 Excellent honors from Augustana College (19 – six Outstanding, six Superior, seven Excellent), Austin College (12 – six Outstanding, one Superior, six Excellent), Brown University (17 – nine Outstanding, six Superior, two Excellent), Bucknell University (19 – six Outstanding, 11 Superior, two Excellent), Carthage College (10 – three Outstanding, two Superior, five Excellent), Connecticut College (12 – eight Outstanding, four Superior), Grove City College (6 – three Outstanding, one Superior, two Excellent), Harvard University (14 – eight Outstanding, six Superior), Macalester College (14 – 10 Outstanding, three Superior, one Excellent), Mercyhurst University (12 – 11 Outstanding, one Superior), Princeton University (12 – four Outstanding, five Superior, three Excellent), Saint Francis University (7 – five Outstanding, one Superior, one Excellent), the University of Michigan (16 – three Outstanding, seven Superior, six Excellent) and Wheaton College (10 – three Outstanding, seven Superior)
Further, a total of 56 schools posted Team Honors for achieving GPAs over 3.0 with 14 CWPA institutions making the list.
The CWPA leads the way among institutions earning recognition as Macalester (3.81) earns the top spot by outdistancing runner-ups Arizona State University (3.76) and Villanova University (3.76) by a half point. Mercyhurst (3.72) stands sixth, Connecticut College (3.69) is tied for seventh place, while Harvard (3.67) claims ninth as four league institutions rank among the Top 10. No other conference placed more than two schools among the Top 10 as Arizona State State (3.76 – tie for second) and Stanford University (3.66 – 10th) of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), Villanova (3.76 – tie for 2nd) of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), Salem University (3.74 – tie for fourth) of the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) along with the University of La Verne (3.74 – tie for fourth) and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (3.69 – tie for seventh) of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) account for the remaining six berths.
Brown (3.36 – tie for 14th), Austin (3.59 – tie for 17th), Michigan (3.52 – tie for 26th), Augustana (3.48 – tie for 33rd), Princeton (3.46 – tie for 37th), Wheaton (3.43 – 41st), Bucknell (3.42 – tie for 42nd), Carthage (3.41 – tie for 44th) and Grove City (3.39 – tie for 47th) also rank among the Top 50 women’s water polo programs based on grade point average.
