BRONX, N.Y. — No. 5 Fordham University improved to 6-0 on the season as the host Rams vanquished No. 11 San Jose State University, 14-10, at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.
Eight Fordham players scored in the victory led by sophomore Diego Tresa, who accounted for four markers. Junior Andras Toth, sophomore Mark Dyck and freshman Oktavian Veklyuk each recorded a pair of goals.
In the Fordham net, freshman Viktor Savic made nine saves.
Tied at three-all with 2:17 left in the first quarter, a goal by Toth started a run of seven straight Fordham strikes that gave the Rams a 9-3 lead with 44 seconds left in the second quarter. Veklyuk had two goals in the run, while Tresa also scored twice, including the capper that gave Fordham the 9-3 lead.
San Jose State managed to snap the Rams’ run with a goal in the waning seconds of the second quarter and used that momentum to record three straight tallies to begin the third quarter in closing within 9-7.
A Tresa goal stopped the Spartans’ streak before the visitors picked up another tally to make it 10-8, at the conclusion of the third quarter.
The two teams traded goals over the first half of the fourth quarter before a Toth liner gave Fordham a three-goal lead at 12-9 on the way to a 14-10 win.
