ERIE, Pa. — The Mount St. Mary’s University men’s water polo team split a pair of games at Mercyhurst University’s Laker Invitational as the Mountaineers managed Gannon University, 16-12, and dropped a 27-14 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) meeting with Bucknell University.
Aleksandar Radosavljevic led the way for Mount St. Mary’s as he scored 11 goals across both contests, with six versus Gannon and five more facing Bucknell. The other top scorer of the day was Luka Urosevic who found the back of the net a total of nine times, with five against Gannon and four versus Bucknell.
In the first quarter of the game against Gannon, Radosavljevic found the back of the net to move the Mountaineers within 5-1 heading into the second quarter. Mount St. Mary’s flipped the script in the second quarter with one goal scored by the team as well as markers from Will Matthews, Urosevic, Aaron Tarr (two) and Radosavljevic to push ahead 8-6 going into halftime.
Radosavljevic and Urosevic dented the twine in the third quarter, while the Mountaineers’ defense permitted four tallies as the team led 10-9 going into the final eight minutes of regulation.
However, the Mount pulled away in the fourth quarter thanks to six goals that came from Jack Fox, Radosavljevic (two) and Urosevic (three) to wrap-up a four-score victory.
Radosavljevic (six), Urosevic (five), Tarr (two), Matthews, Fox and the team combined for the squad’s 16 goals in the win.
Squaring off with MAWPC rival Bucknell, Urosevic found the back of the net with the first goal against the Bison in the opening eight minutes of regulation. Radosavljevic (two) and Tarr punched in shots for the Mountaineers as the Bison led 9-4 going into the second quarter.
Radosavljevic found the back of net to start the second frame before Tarr, Giannis Skliras, Darrion Phelps and Radosavljevic struck as Mount St. Mary’s was down 15-9 by the halftime break.
The Mount was unable to overcome its deficit as Urosevic (three), Radosavljevic and Phelps drove home shot in the third quarter prior to the Bison defense keeping the Mountaineers in check during the fourth quarter to wrap-up a 27-14 Bucknell victory.
