TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State University seeks an assistant women’s water polo coach for the institution’s varsity team.
Job Description: Under administrative direction, the Assistant Water Polo Coach provides coaching and administrative assistance to the Head Coach. Assists with all aspects of NCAA Division I Women’s Water Polo Program, including conditioning, training, and on deck coaching; student recruitment and development; compliance with NCAA, Conference and Arizona State University rules and regulations; student-athlete academic achievement; editing game film and scouting of opponents; fundraising; travel; and other duties assigned by the Head Coach. Position adheres to NCAA and PAC-12 rules and regulations, as well as Arizona Board of Regents, University, and Athletic Department policies and procedures.

Essential Duties:
- Assist with student recruitment and development.
- Assist with evaluating, recruiting and selecting qualified prospects who have the ability to compete in the classroom and athletically.
- Actively seek out and encourage a diverse group of prospects and assist them through the application process.
- Work collaboratively with the Compliance office, SDA staff and Academics staff to qualify and process prospects in a timely and efficient manner.
- Make recurring contacts by telephone, written correspondence, off-campus visits and evaluations, and coordination of campus visits as assigned by the Head Coach.
- On deck coaching
- Assist in organizing and participating in practices and intercollegiate competitions. Teach necessary skills from the basic fundamentals to the techniques and strategies of team play.
- Build a network of contacts among club coaches, seeking to attract the top athletes to ASU. Will also look nationally and internationally for qualified candidates.
- Assists in monitoring academic progress and eligibility status of student team members and the participation of team members in class attendance and meeting mandatory study hall requirements.
- Actively participate in all required staff meetings, team functions and educational opportunities.
- Committed to conducting the program in a safe, athlete-centered manner, which maximizes the educational opportunity for the participants and facilitates personal growth and development.
- Compliance with NCAA, Conference and Arizona State University rules and regulations
- Promote and foster a positive team environment, appropriate behavior, and sportsmanship by team members. Responsible for the conduct of team members both on and off the deck.
- Student-athlete academic achievement
- Video and edit games as assigned by the coaching staff.
- Assist the Head Coach in scouting of opponents including the exchange and analysis of videotapes.
- Fundraising
- Maintain collaborative working relationships with administrators and coaches in the department, other college offices, and appropriate relationships with members of the media, donors, and other individuals interested in the sports program.
- Travel
- Other duties assigned by the Head Coach.

- High degree of interpersonal skills to represent the University, and ability to train student athletes and administer in a warm, respectful and effective manner
- Experience in stimulating changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment.
- Experience in leading by example in communicating, participating and encouraging support of the institutions sustainability programs.
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
Working Environment:
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (25%), as well as outdoors under various weather conditions (25%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk/run moderate distances to perform work (20%). Swimming and exerting effort in chlorinated pools (10%). Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds (20%).
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
- Schedule includes days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Travel required.
