BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Casey Barragan (So., Commerce, Calif./La Serna) of Division III No. 5-ranked Augustana College racked up 13 goals, three assists and eight drawn ejections for the Vikings at Carthage College during a 4-0 weekend of Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III-West Region competition.  For her performance, Barragan is named the April 3 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Divsion III Co-Player and Rookie of the Week.

A five-time Rookie of the Week and two-time Player of the Week honoree during her first year at Augustana after transferring from Fresno State University, she shares the Player and Rookie of the Week awards with Connecticut College’s Gigi Sandull (Fr., Kenilworth, N.J./Union County Vocational-Technical Schools) posted 31 goals, six assists, 11 steals, nine kickouts drawn and a field block during a 4-0 weekend for the Camels at Utica University.

A February 13, February 20, March 6, March 20 and April 3 Rookie of the Week honoree, she previously earned Player of the Week status on March 6.  Overall, it marks the second time Barragan and Sandull share a weekly honor as the duo were recognized as March 20 CWPA Division III Rookie of the Week co-recipients.

She opened the weekend in Kenosha, Wis., by racking up two goals, an assist, a pair of exclusions drawn and two steals in a 13-8 dispatching of Division III No. 8/defending CWPA Division III Champion Austin College prior to notching four goals, three exclusions drawn, three steals and a field block in an 11-6 victory over Wittenberg University on Saturday, April 1. 

On Sunday, April 2, she tallied four goals, an assist, an exclusion drawn and two steals in an 8-6 handling of Macalester College.  In the weekend finale versus the host Firebirds, Barragan barraged Carthage with three goals, an assist and a pair of ejections drawn to led the Vikings to a 10-3 win.

The 4-0 record helped Augustana raise its league mark to 7-1 as the squad captured the CWPA Division III-West championship and the No. 1 seed for the upcoming CWPA Division III Championship on Friday-Sunday, April 21-23 at Macalester in St. Paul, Minn.
