BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Goalie Valery Piachonkina (So., Castro Valley, Calif./Mission San Jose) of Division III No. 10-ranked Austin College made 31 saves over the span of five games at the Brown University Bruno Classic to earn recognition as the February 3 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Defensive Player of the Week.
A two-time weekly recipient from the league office after sharing the March 4 Defensive Player of the Week award in 2019, Piachonkina aided the Kangaroos’ cause against the host Bears (14-6 L), Division III No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (14-4 L), Siena College (16-13 L), No. 23 Bucknell University (13-8 L) and Long Island University (12-4 L).
Her best game of the three-day, weekend invitational came versus Brown as she made nine saves.
