BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Brown University women’s water polo All-America selection Claire Poissonnier joins the staff of head coach Danielle Montenegro as an assistant coach for the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) women’s water polo team.

A mechanical engineer at Salas O’Brien in Roanoke, Va., the Santa Ana, Calif., native and graduate of Foothill High School heads to Lexington, Va., following a standout playing tenure in Providence, R.I.

The 2025 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-America Honorable Mention selection joins VMI after garnering Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship All-Tournament Second Team status to cap off a senior season in which Poissonnier posted 27 goals, eight assists, 16 steals, a field block and 38 ejections drawn.

In 2024, she received CWPA Championship All-Tournament Second Team notice following a season in which she led the Bears in ejections drawn (55) and placed second in goals (42).  Poissonnier added 12 assists, 21 steals and four field blocks.

As a sophomore in 2023, she finished second on the team in exclusions drawn (48) to go along with 26 goals, 19 assists, 27 steals and a pair of field blocks.

During her inaugural season in 2022, Poissonnier finished second in exclusions drawn (50) to accompany 26 goals, five assists, 30 steals and three field blocks as she concluded her four-year tenure at Brown with 121 goals, 44 assists, 94 steals, 10 field blocks and 191 exclusions drawn.
