PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Brown University men’s water polo will host the 2018 Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Championship as well as the Bruno Classic, compete in three other tournaments, and play 10 NWPC league games as part of its 2018 Fall schedule.

The Bears, ranked No. 15 in the final Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) poll of 2017, open their season at home with the Bruno Classic from September 1-2, while later taking part in the Princeton University Invitational, Harvard University Invitational, and the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament at Santa Clara University. Brown will host the 2018 edition of the NWPC Championship at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center following the conclusion of the team’s regular season docket.

Brown will play in 10 NWPC games during the regular season, squaring off in home-and-homes with Harvard, Princeton, St. Francis College Brooklyn, Iona College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The program begins competition at the seventh annual Bruno Classic, hosting the event from September 1-2 and meeting Austin College, University of the Pacific, Bucknell University, the University of California-Davis and Pepperdine University. Pacific, UC-Davis and Pepperdine all concluded the 2017 season ranked in the Top 10 nationally. The Bears will play at the Princeton Invitational the following weekend (September 8-9).

The Bears will then travel to the state of Texas for a re-match with Austin College – a program entering its first season of varsity play in the fall – on September 15.

Brown begins NWPC play away from home with road match-ups at St. Francis Brooklyn (September 29), at Princeton (September 29), and at Iona (September 30). The team completes the first half of conference play with games at Harvard and at MIT on October 6 prior to hosting Princeton on October 7.

Breaking from conference play, the Bears will compete at the Harvard Invitational (October 13-14) and the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament (October 19-21) at Santa Clara. As part of the Harvard Invitational, Brown will face Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, the University of Toronto, Wagner College and Bucknell.

Completing the regular season, Brown hosts four NWPC games as the Bears will take on Iona and St. Francis Brooklyn on October 28 prior to squaring off with MIT and Harvard on November 3. The program will honor its seniors as part of the contest with the Engineers.

Brown will host the 2018 NWPC from November 16-18 at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center with the winner of the tournament claiming the league’s automatic berth into the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship tournament.
