PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Men’s and women’s water polo Associate Head Coach JJ Addison and Katharine Knowles (So., Fullerton, Calif./Troy) of the women’s water polo team are among twenty-six Brown University Division of Athletics and Recreation representatives headed to Panama in partnership with Courts for Kids for a community service trip scheduled for May 30-June 6.

“We are incredibly excited to partner with Courts for Kids for this cultural immersion trip to Panama,” said Sean Hendricks, Ed.D., Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Student-Athlete Development. “Courts for Kids is a mission-driven organization that aims to transform lives through building courts and cultural exchange and has built over 200 courts in over 30 countries since 2006. Their mission aligns nicely with our overarching goals in Student-Athlete Development, including providing transformational community service opportunities for Brown student-athletes. Our group of 26 student-athletes, coaches, and staff is excited to work with the people of El Potrero, Panama to help build a court for the kids in the community.”

“I am excited to partner with Brown on their first service/immersion trip with Courts for Kids,” said Derek Nesland, President of Courts for Kids. “I was impressed with the student-athletes at our pre-trip training and their openness to learn from another culture and their excitement to get out of their comfort zones. Together with the El Potrero, Panama community, they will build a safe space that will benefit children for years to come. In the process, they will form great bonds with each other and the community members themselves. The community is eagerly awaiting their arrival and we are thrilled that Brown is partnering with us to make it possible.”

Knowles and Addison join representatives from Brown’s equestrian, field hockey, football, gymnastics, men’s basketball, men’s swimming & diving, softball, women’s basketball, women’s rugby, women’s swimming & diving and women’s track & field teams.
