IRVINE, Calif. — Senior Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.) scored two goals and the Bears’ defense totaled 21 saves as Brown University women’s water polo defeated Concordia University-Irvine, 9-3, at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center.

The Bears opened the game with a 5-0 lead and held at least a four-goal margin the rest of the way on their way to the win over the host Eagles. Brown improved to 4-1 during its eight-day, nine-game West Coast trip.

Heilman added an assist and two steals to her pair of goals while junior McKenna Miller (Danville, Calif.) tallied a goal, three assists, seven steal, and two field blocks.

Freshman Carissa Perez (Pico Rivera, Calif.) posted a goal, two steals, and two field blocks, fellow rookie Kaitlyn Cook (Los Gatos, Calif.) notched a goal and an assist, and sophomore Lexi Atwell (La Jolla, Calif.) registered a goal and two steals.

Junior Maigrie McDougal (Sacramento, Calif.) netted a goal with two steals, junior Carmen Rosas (Schaumburg, Ill.) made four steals, and freshmen Riley Hughes (Evanston, Ill.) and Lily Keck (La Jolla, Calif.) each scored one goal.

In the cage, senior goalkeeper Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) stopped four shots in the first half and allowed just one goal while sophomore net-minder Lauren Burns (Long Grove, Ill.) turned aside five shots in the second half.

The Bears began the game with a 5-0 lead early in the second quarter. Brown took a 3-0 edge at the end of the first frame behind a pair of goals from Heilman and a marker from Miller. The visitors extended their edge to 5-0 behind goals from Perez and Keck.

Holding a 5-1 advantage at halftime, McDougal pushed the margin to 6-1 midway through the third quarter. Goals from Atwell and Cook helped Brown bring an 8-3 lead into the fourth stanza, and Hughes netted the only tally of the final frame.
