PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Brown University Director of Water Polo Felix Mercado announced the addition of four student-athletes to the institution’s men’s water polo team starting in the Fall of 2025.

The class includes newcomers: Filip Josipovic, Hugo Molnar, Brody Paine and Griffin Tunney.


Hugo Molnar

Left Wing | Szeged, Budapst | Radnoti Miklos Experimental High School

  • 2022 junior championship goal medalist
  • Played for SZVPS club team

Planned Concentration: Undecided

Why Brown?: “Because it matched my athletic and academic interests.”


Filip Josipovic

Utility | Nijmegen, Netherlands | Liceo Scientifico Ianfranconi

  • Two gold medals (U16 and U18) and one silver (U18) in the Italian National Championship
  • Played for Pro Recco, one of the most prestigious water polo clubs in the world
  • Won a sharpshooter award with the U16 club
  • Two gold medals with the U14 Croatian National Team 
  • Won two bronze medals with Mladost (u13 and u14) in the Croatian National Championship
  • Knows five languages (Croatian, English, Dutch, Italian and Portugese) and learning Hungarian

Planned concentration: Biomedical engineering – possibly nano-technology

Why Brown?: “The freedom you get from the university that lets me accomplish any goal that I put up for myself. I wouldn’t be able to do that anywhere else.”


Brody Paine

Center Defender | Marin County, Calif. | Saint Ignatius College Preparatory

  • WCAL All-League Second Team in 2023 and 2024
  • WCAL All-League Honorable Mention in 2022
  • 2022 D2 CCS Champion and D3 CIF-NorCal Champion
  • Played for San Francisco Water Polo Club
  • Four-time Outstanding USAWP All-Academic

Planned concentration: Applied Mathematics

Why Brown?: “I chose Brown because of the excellent academics and extremely competitive water polo program. The campus, location, and general culture all matched what I looked for in a well-rounded college experience.”


Griffin Tunney

Attacker | Orinda, Calif. | Miramonte High School

  • Two-time First Team All-League
  • Second Team All-League
  • NCS Champions in 2023-24 season
  • First Place at Kap7 in 2025 for Lamorinda Water Polo
  • Four Year USAWP All-Academic selection

Planned concentration: Applied Mathematics Economics

Why Brown?: “The team seems like a really supportive group, and being at Brown will be a completely new experience for me. I’m excited by the chance to grow in a different environment and take full advantage of the academic freedom.”
