BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Brown University’s Marisol Dakan (Sr., Pasadena, Calif./La Salle) totaled 47 saves with a .573 save percentage and 35 goals against during a 2-2 weekend at Princeton University’s DeNunzio Pool to earn honors as the April 16 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Defensive Player of the Week.

Competing in the final regular season games of the year for the Bears, she opened the weekend with 10 saves and a steal in a 10-8 overtime victory against No. 23-ranked Harvard University on Saturday, April 14.  She wrapped up the day by stopping 13 shots in a 9-7 defeat of No. 25 Bucknell University.

On Sunday, April 15, she made nine saves in a 12-7 loss to the No. 10/host Tigers of Princeton prior to notching 15 saves in an 8-7 loss to George Washington University.

The loss to GW helped Brown clinch the No. 7 seed for the upcoming CWPA Championship at Bucknell’s Kinney Natatorium on Friday-Sunday, April 27-29, in Lewisburg, Pa.

The award marks the fourth Defensive Player of the Week nod for Dakan this season after previously notching notice on February 5, March 26 and April 2.  An eight-time Defensive Player of the Week recipient, she received the February 23 and March 9 Defensive Player of the Week awards during her freshman season of 2015, the February 22 Defensive Player of the Week award in 2016 as a sophomore and the April 17 award in 2017 as a junior.
