BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Brown University’s Nicholas Dow earns his second consecutive Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Sports Information Director of the Year award from the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) office.

Selected by the CWPA Director of Communications, the SID of the Year award is presented to individuals who “have achieved notable excellence in the field of water polo communications during the past academic year.”

The award marks the second honor bestowed exclusively to NWPC institutions following the division of the CWPA men’s teams into the NWPC and Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) during the Summer of 2016.  A member of the NWPC, Brown competes in the league with Harvard University, Princeton University, Iona College, St. Francis College Brooklyn and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

A three-time SID of the Year recipient after previously taking home honors as the 2015 CWPA Northern Division honoree and the inaugural NWPC recipient in 2017, Dow recently completed his fourth year in Providence, R.I after joining the Bears’ staff in September of 2014 following previous stints at Bates College and Boston College.

Responsible for coverage of 12 sports (women’s basketball, women’s crew, equestrian, men’s and women’s fencing, gymnastics, women’s soccer, softball, volleyball, wrestling and men’s and women’s water polo) at Brown, Dow has covered a gambit of Bears’ events during his tenure including National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championships and multiple other postseason berths.

Prior to coming to Brown, Dow worked as the Assistant Sports Information Director at Bates from 2013-14, covering the Bobcats’ 31 varsity programs in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). He created the department’s Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube accounts.

Prior to Bates, Dow worked as a Media Relations Assistant at Boston College during the 2012-13 academic year, serving as the primary contact for volleyball, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s tennis, and women’s rowing.

A 2012 graduate of Boston College, he served as a student assistant in the media relations office at BC from 2010-12.

His selection marks the sixth SID of the Year presented to Brown’s water polo contact as Lyndsey Maurer (2012 CWPA Women’s Southern Division / 2010 CWPA Men’s Northern Division) and Chris Hatfield (2008 CWPA Men’s Northern Division) previously earned nods. 

In addition, the Brown Athletics Communications Office receives the Sports Information Office of the Year award for the second time after previously earning the honor in 2014. presented annually since 2012 to the CWPA member institution which sponsors both men’s and women’s water polo, the Sports Information Office of the Year laurel recognizes outstanding performance for the SID and the rest of the Athletics Communications staff at an institution.
