SAN DIEGO, CALIF. — Bucknell University split two games on the opening day of the Aztec Invitational hosted by No. 19-ranked San Diego State University at the Aztec Aquaplex. The Bison withstood Division III No. 8 Whittier College, 19-6, and tussled with the host Aztecs before falling 15-11.

Bucknell routed Whittier behind three goals from Addison Wedding. 13 different players scored a goal for the Orange & Blue, as head coach John McBride cleared his bench.

The Bison established dominance from the start with eight goals in the first quarter. Whittier scored three in an attempt to keep pace with the fast-starting Bison.

The second quarter slowed down with Bucknell only scoring two cage-finders, but the Bison held Whittier scoreless as the squad continued to pull away.

The Orange & Blue did not slow down out of halftime, adding four more goals to the Poets’ single line of verse.

Bucknell tallied five insurance goals in the final quarter and Whittier scored two more to end the game at 19-6.

The Bison kept pace for most of the game with the ranked Aztecs before SDSU used the final quarter to separate for a 15-11 win. Olivia Garcia and Bella Schraa each tallied three goals for Bucknell.

The first quarter was a sluggish affair as SDSU scored two goals to solo tally for Bucknell.

Things heated up in the second quarter with Bucknell finding the cage four times and SDSU depositing six strikes to stay out in front.

Bucknell made a huge push in the third quarter, outscoring the Aztecs 5-4, and moving within striking distance as the fourth quarter dawned.

The upset attempt was denied, however, as SDSU clamped down on any offensive resurgence. Bucknell scored once and San Diego State added three insurance goals for the 15-11 win.
