FUKUOKA, Japan — Former Lindenwood University athlete Hanna Muller, Bucknell University’s Boati Motau (Jr., Johannesburg, South Africa/Roedean School South Africa) and the rest of the South Africa team combined to shoot two-for-29 as the squad suffered a 24-2 setback against Italy in Group C competition at the 20th World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.

Motau shot zero-for-one in 14:12 of playing time, while Muller shot zero-for-three with a steal.  Overall, Italy exploited 7-1 and 8-0 scoring outbursts in the third and fourth quarters, respectively, to build upon 2-1 and 7-0 margins in the first and second quarters.

South Africa, which now stands at 0-2 following a prior 24-2 loss to Greece, will next be in action at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, July 19, against Argentina in both squads’ final group game.  Both South Africa and Argentina have yet to notch a victory in Group C.
