BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Paige Furano (Jr., Stamford, Conn./The Ursuline School (N.Y)) of No. 20-ranked Bucknell University contributed seven goals, 10 assists, 13 seals and an ejection drawn during a 2-0 league weekend for the Bison at Mount St. Mary’s University to earn honors as both the April 19 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Player and Defensive Player of the Week.

She opened the weekend schedule on Saturday, April 17, at Mount St. Mary’s in Emmitsburg, Md., by contributing three goals six assists and eight steals in a 20-3 defeat of the host Mountaineers.  Facing No. 24 Saint Francis later in the day, she accounted for four goals, four assists, five steals and an ejection drawn as the Bison downed the Red Flash, 14-9, and locked up the No. 2 seed for the upcoming CWPA Championship on Saturday, April 24, in Ann Arbor, Mich., at the University of Michigan.

The award marks the second weekly honor bestowed on Furano during her tenure at Bucknell as she previously claimed co-Rookie of the Week laurels on April 1, 2019.

She is the second Furano sister to claim Player of the Week honors this season as sister Ally Furano (Sr., Stamford, Conn./The Ursuline School (N.Y)) earned recognition on March 15. Ally Furano – who holds seven weekly honors (2021: March 15 Player of the Week; 2020: February 3 Player of the Week; 2019: February 4, March 11, April 8 Player of the Week; 2018: April 16 Player & Rookie of the Week) – has combined with her sister for seven Player of the Week and a pair of Rookie of the Week nods since 2018.
