ANNAPOLIS, Md. – United States Naval Academy water polo head coach Luis Nicolao announced that rising senior Caden Capobianco (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach) will be team captain for the 2023 campaign.

“I am super excited to be the captain of this team,” Capobianco remarked. “It’s a great group of guys and a great group of seniors next year that will make for a fun season. I am really looking forward to next year.”

Capobianco is a three-year letterwinner at goal for the Midshipmen who has registered 531 saves with a 51.5 save percentage in 56 games played. He has tallied 158 steals while adding 28 assists offensively.

The rising senior was an honorable mention Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-America selection in 2021 as a sophomore. He finished the year with 242 stops with 71 steals and 13 assists. Additionally, the goalkeeper was selected to the 2021 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) All-Tournament team. Capobianco worked all three games of the tournament at goal for the Midshipmen, finishing the weekend with 46 saves, 63.0 save percentage, 16 steals, and four assists.

As a junior, he earned second-team All-MAWPC honors, leading Navy with 259 saves and 77 steals, while adding 13 assists.

“I am very excited and happy for Caden,” Nicolao said of his team captain. “I know he will make a great captain for our team. We are all looking forward to a great 2023 season.”
