ST. PAUL, MINN. — Carthage College fell to Austin College, 8-7, and Monmouth College, 13-5, at Macalester College’s Riley Pool in the final games of the 2019 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III-West Region regular season.

The Lady Reds, who wrap up the regular season with a 2-6 league mark to clinch fourth place in the CWPA-West Region and the No. 7 seed in the 10-team CWPA Division III Championship set for Friday-Sunday, April 12-14, at Connecticut College in New London, Conn., held their own against the Kangaroos and Fighting Scots.

Facing Austin, Carthage jumped to a 2-1 lead after the first quarter, and led as much as 4-2 in the second frame before the ‘Roos went into halftime with a 5-4 edge. Austin maintained its one goal edge to clip Carthage by a single score.

Meghan Fisher notched a hat trick for the Lady Reds, while teammate Arianna Dakuras followed with a two-goal effort. Sophie Flott and Morgan Fingerson each tallied a goal for the Carthage offense.

Goalie Emma Jeronimus came through with a nine-save effort for the Lady Reds in the narrow defeat.

Taking on Monmouth, Maddi Marsh posted a team-high four goals for the Lady Reds, but it was Monmouth’s Becca Dabrowski who highlighted the game with five goals. Heather Walker, fresh off a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Swimming & Diving National Meet appearance, tallied the other goal for Carthage.

Jeronimus posted 22 saves in net for the Lady Reds against the Fighting Scots.
