GROVE CITY, Pa. — Carthage College overcame Connecticut College, 11-8, at Grove City College’s James E. Longnecker Competition Pool during the final day of 2025 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III regular season competition.
Scoring went back and forth to start the game in the first quarter. The Camels outscored the Firebirds in the first quarter to acquire a 5-4 margin by the conclusion of opening eight minutes. Grace Steinberg put up two back-to-back goals at 6:06 and 5:17, while Brenna Carstens and Xiomara Trejo also recorded scores to keep Carthage within striking distance of Connecticut.
The Camels advanced their lead with the first goal of the second quarter, but Yamila Areizaga (two) and Trejo put up goals to help the Firebirds steal the lead at 7-6 heading into halftime.
Just 51 seconds into the third quarter, Steinberg scored stretching the Firebirds’ lead to 8-6. The Camels scored two more goals as Areizaga and Kiera Crawley pumped in points for the Firebirds to help Carthage push ahead 10-8.
The Firebirds had the one lone goal in the fourth quarter as Trejo spun home a shot with 6:39 on the clock to lock-up the 11-8 victory.
