BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Due to the Coronavirus/COVID-19 terminating the 2020 season prior to the conclusion of the regular season and the postseason, the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) is looking back at some of the past championship events.
To start the series, the league recalls the 2015 Women’s CWPA Division I Championship featuring the host Tigers of Princeton University versus the Hoosiers of Indiana University on April 26.
Princeton goalie Ashleigh Johnson – who would go on to lead the United States to an Olympic Gold Medal a year later – earned Tournament Most Valuable Player honors as the junior stopped 17 shots, including eight in the fourth quarter, as the then No. 12-ranked Tigers became the fifth school since 2000 to win the CWPA Championship in its home pool by dethroning defending champion/No. 11, 7-6, at DeNunzio Pool.
