BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Former Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) standouts Bronwen Knox (Hartwick College), Jessica Gaudreault (Indiana University), Shae Fournier (Indiana University) and Ashleigh Johnson (Princeton University) along with current University of Michigan athlete Maddy Steere (Jr., Pascoe Vale, Australia/St. Catherine’s School) competed for their home nations in the semifinals/consolation round of the 2019 FINA Women’s Water Polo World League Super Final in Budpast, Hungary, on Saturday, June 8.

Led by Player of the Game/goalie Johnson, the United States overcame the Netherlands, 8-6, to earn a spot in the tournament championship game on Sunday, June 9.  Team USA will face Italy which outlasted Russia, 13-12.  The Third Place game will pit the Netherlands versus Russia.

A quartet of CWPA athletes dotted the rosters of a consolation game between Canada and Australia.  For Canada, goalie Gaudreault and Fournier did not factor in a 15-9 loss, while Knox scored once and Steere was kept off the scoreboard for the Aussies.  The loss drops Canada into the Seventh Place game against China, while Australia will face Hungary – which topped China by a 15-14 count in the other consolation game – in the Fifth Place game.
