2018 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches Women’s Division III All-America Team (PDF)
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — 10 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) student-athletes earned recognition on the 2018 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) Women’s Division III All-America Team.
2017 and 2018 CWPA Division III Champion Macalester College leads the way with four selections, while CWPA Division III Championship runner-up Connecticut College (three), Grove City College (one), Penn State Behrend (one) and Utica College (one) combine for the other six nods.
Leading the league’s selections are the Second Team trio of goalie Courtney Overland (Jr., Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani) and Lucy Moran (Jr., Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) of Macalester College along with Stephania Lopez (Fr., Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius College Prep) of Connecticut College. The award marks the second honor for Overland, who previously collected an Honorable Mention nod in 2017, while Moran earns her third All-America award following previous Honorable Mention (2016) and Second Team (2017) laurels. Lopez notches her inaugural All-America award.
The CWPA’s other seven selections all earned Honorable Mention status as Utica College goalie Michalyn Winkler (Jr., Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), Shannon Cry (Sr., Monterey, Calif/Monterey) of Connecticut College, Tessa Leatherwood (Fr., Hurst, Texas/Covenant Christian Academy) of Grove City College, and Oriano Galasso (So., Gresham, Ore./Central Catholic) of Macalester all claim their first All-America awards to join multi-time selections April Anderson (Sr., Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) of Connecticut College (2016 Honorable Mention, 2018 Honorable Mention), Cara Mullery (So., Palmetto Bay, Fla./MAST Academy) of Macalester (2017 Honorable Mention, 2018 Honorable Mention) and Maryn Horn (Sr., Houston, Texas/Jersey Village) of Penn State Behrend (2016, Honorable Mention, 2017 Honorable Mention, 2018 Honorable Mention).
The total marks a four athlete increase over the league’s six selections to the 2017 Division III All-America squad.
The ACWPC All-America teams are selected based on nominations and voting by the head coach of each program by National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division (Division I, II, III).
Since 2005, the mission of the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) is to promote the development and advancement of collegiate water polo. This shall be accomplished by providing its membership with professional education, services, training and a united voice.
