BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Seven Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) institutions placed 13 athletes on the 2021 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) Division III Women’s Varsity All-America Team.
The ACWPC All-America teams are selected based on nominations and voting by varsity head coaches.
A total of 23 athletes from 11 institutions garnered a nod on the 2021 edition of the Division III team with Austin College (three), Macalester College (three), Wittenberg University (three), Carthage College (one), Connecticut College (one), Grove City College (one) and Penn State Behrend (one) accounting for the 13 CWPA selections.
On the First Team, Sophie Oliver (So., Houston, Texas/Langham Creek) of Austin, Stephania Lopez (Sr., Chicago, Ill./Saint Ignatius College Prep) of Connecticut and Eleanor Michaud (So., Long Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) of Macalester picked up recognition. The award marks the second All-America accolade for Oliver (2020 Honorable Mention, 2021 First Team) and the fourth for Lopez (2018 Second Team, 2019 Second Team, 2020 Second Team, 2021 First Team). Michaud collects her inaugural All-America recognition.
On the Honorable Mention list, three athletes add onto previous All-America awards as Austin’s Valery Piachonkina (Jr. Castro Valley, Calif./Mission San Jose) (2021 Honorable Mention, 2020 Honorable Mention) and Lexi Wong (Jr.. Lantana, Texas/Guyer) (2021 Honorable Mention, 2020 First Team, 2019 Second team) are joined Shannon Young (So., Roseville, Calif./Roseville) of Penn State Behrend (2021 Honorable Mention, 2020 Honorable Mention).
Carthage’s Arianna Dakuras (Sr., Chicago, Ill./Oak Park-Fenwick), Grove City’s Reese Traguer (So., Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge), Macalester’s Laurel O’Hare (Fr., Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) and Annika Krueger (Jr., Emerald Hills, Calif./Sequoia) and Wittenberg’s Grace McLaughlin (Fr., Hatfield, Pa./North Penn), Kailey Cordova (So., Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) and Jordan Brough (Fr., North Palm Beach, Fla./Suncoast) complete the league’s All-America honorees .
Founded in 2005, the mission of the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) is to promote the development and advancement of collegiate water polo. This shall be accomplished by providing its membership with professional education, services, training and a united voice.
