BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Longtime Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) official Michael Goldenberg will call the world’s best this summer as an official for the 2021 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
The recipient of the 2018 Northeast Zone Bill Barnett Distinguished Coaching Award from USA Water Polo for his work with the South Florida Water Polo Club, he will travel with the United States team for the Olympics.
The water polo tournaments at the Summer Olympics are scheduled to take place at the Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center in Kōtō. Twenty-two teams (twelve for men and ten for women) will compete in the tournament, an increase of two from the previous editions. Similar to Rio 2016, games that end in ties in elimination rounds will be decided by shootouts, as overtime has been abolished since 2013.
