BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Following two National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship play-in games over the weekend, the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the Week 17/May 10 Women’s Varsity Top 25 Poll for the 2017 season.

The Bruins remain No. 1 for a fourth week in a row leading into this weekend’s NCAA Championship at the IU Natatorium on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis after capturing the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championship two weekend ago. Stanford University and the University of Southern California, both of which preceded UCLA at No. 1 during the 2017 campaign, follow at No. 2 and 3 as the triumvirate remains the three dominant programs in women’s varsity water polo through the conclusion of the regular season, conference championship weekends and NCAA Championship play-in games.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the CWPA, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), Big West Conference, Golden Coast Conference, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Women’s Varsity Top 25 Poll is compiled and released on each Wednesday during the season through the week following the NCAA Championship.

2017 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 17/May 10)

The top team at the conclusion of the regular season will remain the consensus selection as the nation’s best to open the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship this weekend at the at the IU Natatorium on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis as Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) titlist the University of California-Los Angeles remains the unanimous top-ranked team in the Week 17/May 10 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Poll.

UCLA (100 points), which displaced former No. 1 Stanford University (96 points) to drop the Cardinal into a tie at No. 2 with fellow previously top-ranked the University of Southern California (92 points) three weeks ago, retains its spot on top of the national stage.

Stanford (96 points) and USC (92 points) remain at No. 2 and 3, respectively, with the University of California (87 points) holding firm at No. 4.  The University of California-Irvine (80 points) breaks out of a tie with Arizona State University (79 points) for the No. 5 spot to take sole possession of the position.

ASU, however, slips into another tie as the Sun Devils and Wolverines of the University of Michigan (79 points) are now tied at No. 6.

University of the Pacific (70 points) stays at No. 8, Princeton University (68 points) takes over at No. 9 and Long Beach State University (65 points) slips to No. 10.

The University of Hawaii (60 points) and the University of California-Davis (55 points) hang on at No. 11 and 12, respectively, with Hartwick College (51 points) shattering a tie with San Diego State University (48 points) from last week to take over at No. 13. SDSU moves back to No. 14 with Harvard University (41 points) and Wagner College (40 points) leaping over the University of California-San Diego (34 points) to assume the No. 15 and 16 spots after Wagner downed host UC-San Diego in one of the NCAA Championship play-in games.

Indiana University (32 points) stays at No. 18, California State University-Northridge (28 points) claims sole custody of the No. 19 spot, San Jose State University (26 points) climbs to No. 20 and the University of California-Santa Barbara (24 points) drops to No. 21.

CSU Bakersfield (19 points), Loyola Marymount University (13 points), Marist College (8 points) and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (2 points) complete the Top 25 by once again holding down the No. 22-to-25 slots.
