BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Defending National Champion Stanford University remains the top-ranked team in the nation as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2018 Women’s Varsity Week 3/January 31 National Top 25, Division III Top 10, CWPA Top 10 and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls.

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Division III), the University of Michigan (CWPA Top 10) and Macalester College (CWPA Division III Top Five) also retain top-billing in their respective rankings

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2018 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 3)

Stanford University, which captured the 2017 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship, remains the top-ranked team in the Week 3/January 31 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Poll.

The Cardinal (99 points) lead a Top 25 which experiences minor changes in the Top 10 and significant shifts in the No. 11-to-25 slots.

The University of California (95 points), the University of Southern California (92 points), the University of California-Los Angeles (89 points), Arizona State University (83 points), the University of Hawaii (79 points) and the University of California-Irvine (75 points) stick at No. 2-to-7, respectively, behind Stanford with University of the Pacific (74 points) and the University of Michigan (67 points) exchanging the No. 8 and 9 berths to remain ahead of Long Beach State University (62 points) and complete the Top 10.

The University of California-Davis (61 points) and Indiana University (57 points) hang tough at No. 11 and 12, while San Diego State University (47 points) and the University of California-Santa Barbara (47 points) push up to tie at No. 13 after being equals at No. 14 last week.

Wagner College (41 points) experiences the biggest improvement of the week as the Seahawks jump five spots to stand at No. 15. The University of California-San Diego (36 points) inches up to No. 16 with San Jose State University (35 points) and Hartwick College (34 points) sliding back to No. 17 and 18, respectively.

Harvard University (30 points), Princeton University (26 points), Loyola Marymount University (21 points), Fresno State University (16 points), California State University-Northridge (9 points) and Marist College (8 points) rate at No. 19-to-24.

Brown University (3 points) and Bucknell University (3 points) round out the Top 25 by tying for the final position.

2018 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 3)

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges remains the uncontested top team in Division III as the Sagehens once again rank at No. 1 in the Week 3/January 31 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

The Sagehens (100 points), who previously garnered 99 points in the Preseason voting prior to becoming a unanimous top selection two weeks ago, are followed by Whittier College (92 points) and California Lutheran University (89 points) as the Top Three programs in the country remain steady.

Change comes to the Top 10 in the middle of the order for the second time in as many weeks with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (80 points) climbing up to No. 4 and forcing Chapman University (79 points) and the University of La Verne (78 points) back to No. 5 and 6.

The University of Redlands (68 points) and Occidental College (68 points) move into a tie at No. 7 with Macalester College (48 points) holding on at No. 9.

Connecticut College (39 points) cracks the Top 10 this week in the final spot.

2018 Women’s Varsity Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 10 (Week 3)

Two-time defending Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Champion the University of Michigan remains a unanimous top pick in the Week 3/January 31 Women’s Varsity CWPA Top 10 Poll.

Michigan (100 points) and Indiana University (95 points) stay at No. 1 and 2, while Harvard University (86 points) pulls even with Hartwick College (86 points) to tie the Hawks at No. 3.

Princeton University (83 points), Brown University (73 points), Bucknell University (72 points), George Washington University (64 points), Saint Francis University (61 points) and Macalester College (33 points) once again wrap up the Top 10.

2018 Women’s Varsity Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Top 10 (Week 3)

Macalester College, which captured the 2017 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championship at home, remains at No. 1 in the Week 3/January 31 CWPA Division III Top Five Poll.

Macalester (97 points), which joined Grove City College (2010-2012) and Connecticut College (2013-2016) as the sole teams to ever claim the CWPA Division III league crown, sees its lead shrink from six to four points as Carthage College (93 points) inches closer to the Scots.

Connecticut (91 points) and five-time (2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016) league runner-up Washington & Jefferson College (71 points) stick at No. 3 and 4, respectively, while Penn State Behrend (34 points) edges out Grove City College (32 points) and Monmouth College (32 points) for the fifth and final spot in the ranking.
