2019 Men’s Collegiate Club Heartland Division Schedule
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2019 Men’s Collegiate Club Heartland Division schedule.
Comprised of Augustana College, Carleton College, Grinnell College, Knox College, Macalester College, Saint John’s University (Minn.), Saint Mary’s University (Minn.) and newcomer St. Olaf College, the division will contest its 21st season in the CWPA. Historically, Macalester (1999, 2000, 2005, 2006), Grinnell (2001, 2004, 2007, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2018), Saint Mary’s (2002, 2003), Augustana (2014, 2017) and former club/current varsity program Monmouth College (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012) have claimed the prior 20 crowns.
The division’s competitive format is comprised of three regional weekends where teams attend two of the three and all teams attend the championship weekend. During the regular season, teams play every opponent once and one opponent twice that is randomly selected based on each team’s weekend availability.
Competition starts on Saturday-Sunday, September 14-15, at St. John’s Warner Palaestra in Collegeville, Minn., as Grinnell, Macalester and St, Mary’s contest an eight game weekend. Two weeks later, Augustana, Knox, Macalester, St. John’s and St. Olaf visit to Carleton’s West Thorpe Pool in Northfield, Minn., for a 12-game clash on Saturday-Sunday, September 28-29.
The regular season concludes with 12 games on Saturday-Sunday, October 5-6, at Augustana’s Carver Center in Rock Island, Ill., with Grinnell, Knox, St. Mary’s and St. Olaf.
Championship competition occurs on Saturday-Sunday, October 12-13, at Macalester’s Riley Pool in St. Paul, Minn., as the eight teams converge for the 12-game Heartland Division Championship.
The victor of the division advances to the Men’s Division III Collegiate Club Championship slated for Saturday-Sunday, October 26-27, at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa. Due to scheduling, the possibility of the Division III Club Championship moving to Saturday-Sunday, November 2-3, and/or to another institution remains on the table as teams should check with the league office in September regarding a finalized date and site.
