BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Defending National Champion the University of Southern California remains the undisputed top team in the country as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2019 Week 2/January 30 Women’s Varsity National Top 25, Division III Top 10, CWPA Top 10 and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls.

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Division III), the University of Michigan (CWPA Top 10) and Macalester College (CWPA Division III Top Five) also retain top-billing in their respective rankings.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2019 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 2/January 30)

The University of Southern California, which captured the 2018 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship, retains the title of top-ranked team in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Poll.

The first four positions in the Top 25 remain unchanged as USC (100 points), Stanford University (96 points), the University of California-Los Angeles (92 points) and the University of California (87 points) hold at No 1-to-4, respectively.

The University of Hawaii (83 points) breaks into the Top Five as the team moves up two places after ranking at No. 7 last week. The University of California-Irvine (79 points) holds on at No. 6 with previously No. 5-ranked Arizona State University (78 points) sliding back two places to No. 7.

University of the Pacific (71 points) and the University of Michigan (71 points) are now tied at No. 8 with the University of California-Santa Barbara (61 points) rounding out the Top 10 in the final position.

San Jose State University (56 points) rises three places to No. 11, Princeton University (55 points) and the University of California-Davis (54 points) hang on at No. 12 and 13, while Fresno State University (48 points) moves up three places to take over at No. 14.

Loyola Marymount University (42 points) and Wagner College (38 points) retain the No. 15 and 16 spots with Long Beach State University (36 points) falling back to No. 17 after ranking at No. 11 in the Week 1 balloting.

Harvard University (27 points) moves ahead of Indiana University (26 points) to acquire sole possession of the No. 18 position.

Marist College (22 points) and the University of California-San Diego (21 points) remain at No. 20 and 21 with California State University-Northridge (16 points) moving in front of San Diego State University (12 points) after the pair were tied at No. 22 last week

California Baptist University (11 points) and Azusa Pacific University (7 points) complete the Top 25 in the final two slots.

2019 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 2/January 30)

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges continues its reign as the dominant small college team in the nation as the Sagehens once again top the Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

The Sagehens (100 points) become the unanimous top Division III team after Pomona-Pitzer recorded 99 points in the Preseason and Week 1 voting.

California Lutheran University (95 points), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (89 points), Whittier College (86 points), Chapman University (79 points) and the University of Redlands (72 points) retain the No. 2-to-6 positions.

The sole change in the Top 10 comes at No. 7 as Macalester College (62 points) inches in front of the University of La Verne (59 points).

Connecticut College (49 points) and Occidental College (39 points) complete the Top 10.

2019 Women’s Varsity Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 10 (Week 2/January 30)

Defending Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Champion the University of Michigan remains a favorite to repeat as the Wolverines are again a unanimous top pick in the Women’s Varsity CWPA Top 10 Poll.

The Top 10 remains unchanged from the Week 1 voting as Princeton University (93 points), Harvard University (92 points), Bucknell University (84 points), Brown University (80 points), George Washington University (73 points), Saint Francis University (71 points), Macalester College (67 points), Connecticut College (48 points) and Carthage College (47 points) account for the remainder of the Top 10 behind Michigan.

2019 Women’s Varsity Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Top 10 (Week 2/January 30)

Due in part to no competition among the teams to date during the 2019 season, Macalester College, which captured the 2017 and 2018 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championships, retains its rating at No. 1 in the CWPA Division III Top Five Poll.

Macalester (100 points), which joined Grove City College (2010-2012) and Connecticut College (2013-2016) as the sole teams to ever claim the CWPA Division III league crown, remains a unanimous top selection this week.

The remainder of the Top Five stays the same as Connecticut  (92 points), Carthage College (91 points), Washington & Jefferson College (68 points) and Monmouth College (33 points) round out the rankings.
